The Story Behind VIRTUE
Crystal is the founder and owner of VIRTUE, has always had a passion for children when she worked at ZION R.C Community Ltd where she worked as a youth coordinator working with underprivileged children.
Her path to becoming a Special Needs Educator began when she was asked to volunteer. She was reluctant at first but it was her dad who made her commit to going.
The day she attended her first session, she met a boy where the soles of his feet were open, like it was talking. She could not help but think how she can help.
Crystal went home that day with the intention to not go back because it was so heartbreaking. She was only 18 yrs old at the time. However again, she was made to return but this time it was her Grandmother go. Her grandmother said: ”Go and help where you can”.
When she returned she felt reserved, scornful even. The boy came and hugged her, and at this moment she found her calling as she kept returning to volunteer every weekend.
Crystal went on to study geriatric nursing, however on one of her on the job trainings she was stationed on the Children’s Ward of the General Hospital.
She met kids who were abandoned by their parents and her love for helping kids developed more. Crystal would look forward to dropping books and spending spend time reading the books to the kids and colouring with them. One day, her mom saw an Advertisement for student support services for Special Education Teacher Aides came up and her mom went ahead and sent in the application for her.
While she had no formal training in this area at the time, she was successful at the interview due to her obvious passion for children and her past experience working with kids. Then the rest was history and VIRTUE was born. Crystal has been working as a Teachers Aide since 2008, earning herself 12 years experience in the field of Special Education. Crystal is not only experienced but she is now certified.
She has her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education amongst other specialized trainings and she is currently pursuing her degree.
